Virtually every Haggie rope installed on a winder is selected from an available design but is custom manufactured to the unique requirements of that winder.

Here are some of the important criteria when selecting or designing a rope for a given shaft installation.

Type of winder and intended duty
Shaft type – vertical or incline
Depth of wind
Conveyance guide system
Mass of conveyance plus mass of payload
Sheave and drum dimensions
Headgear and deflection sheave diameters
Fleet angles
Support rollers dimensions (incline shafts)
Propensity for rope oscillation – position of winder in relation to shaft
Drum type and coiling method
Required statutory factors of safety
Required breaking force
Installation and maintenance requirements
Environmental conditions – corrosive or non-corrosive
Acceleration and deceleration speed
Static and dynamic load range (Friction winders)
Drum tread material (Friction winders)
